These is our front cover, inside covers and back cover of our digipak, i think that these work really well together as they all have simularities to ensure that have continuety. I think that these work well together because they all have the same colour palette, good use of imagery that clearly are of the same model and we have succesfully decided where imagery is needed and where it is not inthe digipak.
We will show this to our target audience to find out what they like and what they would improve about it.

After showing this to our target audience we got these results
  • All covers link together with the same effects which make it look professional
  • The phone bar code on the back cover interacts with audience effectively
  • The eye contact from your artist is powerful to communicate with us as the audience because it helps sell your artist.
  • I love the white speckled effect across each cover which makes them look unique.
  • The copyright statement on the back makes the CD look professional
We are happy with this feedback as it is all positive and shows that we dont need to change anything else as it suits it purpose for our target audience.

These are our next attempt at creating the actual CD design, WE have used our audience feedback to edit these. For example we first decided to only put the image on the CD not around the edges of the case which looks much better and more professional. We have also cropped into her face closer and made it slightly to the right, i think that this works better than a central shot because it abides by the rule of thirds to attract the audiences attenton and also it makes it look more interesting.
We then edited it further by transporting the image to pic monkey then adding a speckled effect to show continuity in the digipak as we have used it through out all of our work. I like how this gives the image a different colour and tone, i think this helps to make the image more aesthetic.

I have decided to add speckles to this inside cover as i wanted to keep the continuety of using speckles as we have them on the rest of the digipak at the moment. To do this i used pic monkeys speckled effect them used the rubber tool over the text so that it didnt make it harder to read.
We got a group of 30 students of the age of 16/17 to watch our Final Video, this group was the same one we had shown our previous videos too, so they can see the changed we have made and comment on them. We handed out pieces of paper and asked them to write down what they thought of it and if they understood the story and meaning behind the video.

The results we recieved were:

1.        'I like the start of black and white and the transition into colour'
2.        'It seems natural and effortless, good scenery'
3.        'Very Good!'
4.        'The narrative is clear, black and white = sad, colour = happy'
5.        'Clear emotions from start to end'
6.        'I understood the narrative from black and white to colour meaning sad to happy'
7.        'Really good, I like the slow transition to colour'
8.        'I like the nature backgrounds and bright colour'
9.        'Atmospheric scenes of slow motion hair blowing in wind and laughing, very powerful'
10.     'Emotive, I'm glad you got rid of the black socks!'
11.     'Use of black and white to colour made your narrative clear'
12.     'Camera angles and the selective focus shots were effective'
13.     'The scenery and natural light work well making a summery scene'
14.     'The atmosphere in the video matches the song'
15.     'Really enjoyed and understood the story'
16.     'Really, really good, colours are so bright. I like the change in colours for the change in emotions'
17.     'I like how it ends the same way it starts'
18.     'The outfit changes suit the themes and backgrounds'
19.     'Black and white- sad, colour- happy, very clear!'
20.     'A lot better than last time!'
21.     'Colour was happy, black and white was sad!'
22.     'I think it was a really good video, I liked how it went from black and white to colour according to her emotions'
23.     'Slow motion effects are atmospheric!'
24.     'Transition in emotions is good!'

These are our first attempts at creating our inside of our CD cover where the disk is kept, we have decided to experiment with which images would suit best. I think that the first image is too central and would look better if it was either more to the left or more to the right and zoomed in more, i think this would create a more interesting layout. I like the image in the second experiment as i think that the closed eyes works well with the fact it is on the inside of the case and her eyes are open on the outside, also i think this makes the cover look peaceful and feminine.

For this experiment i have decided to use the the idea of using to two images, one on the left showing her looking unhappy and more serious to show how she is thining about the loss of her relationship, then on the right image i have put an image of her loking powerful, happy and independant to show that she is over it and moving on. I like this because i think the monotone works well to match the rest of the CD cover images, also i like that is only shows half of her face on each side as it makes it look more interesting and unique. I also think this is eyecatching as it is a clear, well focused image.

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK:
Positive comments:

"Monotone image gives a very deep contrast making it asthetically pleasing."

"You can see the difference in the faces, you can see the assymetrical features such as the eyes, nose and jaw line"

"we like the photograph on your third idea where she is mirrored but we would prefer to see her whole face rather than half of it"

"I like that your going to have it monotone, as it will compliment the rest of your CD Digipack"

Negative comments:

"Quite bold for an inside cover"

"I think you need to put the photograph onto the CD rather than as the background, it doesn't look good like that"

"I think you need to use the third photograph with her full face, but onto the CD"

We have edited our back cover for our CD as we thought that it looked too plain, after looking at other CD's we realised that they had more information about the production of the music so we have added a paragraph under the tracklist in a small tidy font. We also have added a copyright logo.

These are examples of what copyright symbols look like on CD covers.

After researching into the conventions of usual CD cover spines we have noticed that they are usually quite plain with just some text with information such as the artists name, the album name, the record company/producer logo/name and sort code.

This is our spine for the CD, we realised that spines usually are very basic as we wanted most of the attention to be on the front and back cover so we have only added the name of the album and artist along with the code number of the album to keep it simple but effective.

We have decided to use this for our back cover of our CD digipak but are going to also get some audience feedback to see if it appeals to our audience and if not how we can change it to do so.
We have used a grey gradient background with the same edit we also used on the front of our CD that creates speckles of light across it. This helps to make them look good together and link, i think this also gives the album a feminine look.
We have chosen nine of Nina nesbitt's songs to include in the album including 'just before goodbye', 'no interest' and 'the hardest part' because we think that this gives the impression that the album is mainly based around a girl and her feelings and relationships.
We have also included a barcode and a code that can be used to scan onto phones along with the producing company, website and the logo on the back. We have included all these to give information and also give a professional look to it.
We have chosen to use this font for our back cover as we wanted it to look bold but delicate to give an impression of the artist. We have also given the text a central margin so that it gives more shape and creates more of an interesting layout.

These are the CD covers we have used as inspiration during the designing process, we like the way the list of tracks have a central margin to create shape and draw in the audiences attention and also they havent used basic fonts. They have used interesting fonts to give the CD cover a unique look and help it to match the genre of music it is representing. For example from looking at the covers i would pressume the first CD cover is representing an indie/pop genre where as the second CD cover is representing just indie.
We have also noticed that the barcode and other information are at the bottom of the two CD covers and we think this works well to create an easy to read whilst being interesting and eyecatching layout.

Final video

This is our final video, we have now transported it into Adobe Premiere Pro to add a trasition from black and white slowly fading to colour, this represents our narrative clearly as it shows her going from sadness from her previous relationship to her happiness looking forward at a better life without him. This links to our ancillary tasks as in our image she is looking back and forward.
We added set in and set otu points so that we could select the right parts of the video to gradually change from black and white to colour.

This is us exporting the video so that it is able to be put onto youtube as a video for us to put on our blog.

Our final video starts with our artist walking towards the camera to represent her coming back to her relationship and reminicing it, we have dressed her in a denim dress/dungaree over a checked shirt to show a country style whilst looking feminine with also her hair down blowing in the wind to support this.  We have started the video in monotone to show that she feels as if there is no colour or brightness in her life without her ex boyfriend.
We then show her playing the guitar or just looking around in a daydream to represent her thinking about her previous relationship in sadness. In some of the clips we have included her hair blowing in the wind to create atmosphere. We have also tried to use lighting to our advantage as we show scenes where the light is either shining behind her in the distance but never on her face.
We have then captured her performing to the song and sometimes playing the guitar with a sorrowful look on her face giving the audience the impression she is having feelings of loss and regret.
As the song reaches the chorus we have decided to gradually tranform the colour from monotone to bright warm colours to represent a change in her feelings. As the colour slowely fades into colour we see a change in her personality and mood as she begins to smile and laugh more showing signs of happiness and independence.
In the next scenes we have used bright, colourful backgrounds to emphasise this change in emotion. When she performs the next chorus we see that she gives more energy and power into the performance, this represents her realising that she is better without the boy and can be a strong, independant young girl.
We then are presented with more bright scenes showing her look happy whilst looking elegant and at peace with herself.
The last scene shows her walking away from the camera to signify her walking away from the relationship and coming to terms with the loss, she then turns back and looks at the camera showing us that she now has power and happiness.
Throughout this video we have sued slow motion as we thought that it suited the song as its quite slow and it gives more of a dramatic look to the scenes, espeically when the wind blowing her hair is slowed down.

This is our final video without changing some parts to black and white. We have cropped the parts out where we had black socks showing on our model and also made our narrative more apparent by having the sad scenes at the beggining of the video to show her sadness over the loss of her relationship then happiness towards the end to show her independence. This links to our image we have used in our ancillary tasks as we have also used this going from sadness to powerful and independent idea.

"fantastic piece of work.  Beautiful setting and with so many very close up shots that are hard to get and still  look brilliant, but you do it.  Good lip syncing throughout most of the video. development would be some kind of colour edit." This was a comment from someone who showed our video.
