This is a flatplan of our CD digipak, We have created this to make us aware of what areas we will need to cover with text and imagery to make it look like a real CD cover.

These are examples of what i would like our CD cover to be like, i espeically like how simplistic but effective they are. The images are the main focus point of the covers and draw in the audiences attention not only through use of colour and bold positions but also by making it clear who the artist is, by putting a well known artists face on the front of a cover it makes it more noticable. Also using the artists name on the front boldly makes in stand out to audiences and makes them more likely to notice it. On the other hand some well known artists dont use theyre full nam they use a symbol or initial as they are so well known people would already know who it is. For our own CD cover we would use her name as no one would have seen our model before on a CD cover.

For our first time filming we decided to use this location because it has a bright, colourful scenery which connotes happiness and give off a peaceful vibe. This works well with our video as we want to bring across joy in the clips of her memories but then bring across sadness from the loss of her relationship in her performance clips. This scenery has helped us achieve this, we also took into account the lighting as we wanted a calm, mellow lighting from the sun coming from behind our model in some of our shots and others we wanted a bright shine from the sun to be on our model to bring colour and vibrance in the models skin, make up and clothing.

We used this Nikon camera during the first filming as we wanted to use a camera with good quality with a high mega pixel. We also used a guitar and hair straightners and curlers, the guitar helped to create a country genre in the scenes as she held it whilst lip sincing, and the hair straighteners and curlers we used to straighten the curls her hair to give her a classy, elegant look.

We chose these clothes for our model to wear because we wanted a mixture or colour that represents our pop country theme, i think that the checked shirt and skirt dungaree works especially well to bring across the country side of it and the bright yellow top, necklace and flowery hair/wrist bands emphasis the pop culture in our video.

I like this image because i think that it works well to get across a meaning behind the song we have chosen as she has an emotional look on her face. I also like that the wind is blowing through her hair to create a dramatic look with the suns glow behind her. The suns beam reflecting on the river behind her helps to add warmth to the image which contrasts with her serious, harsh facial expression. We have shot her holding the guitar to shwo that many of her songs are mainly guitar based. The only thing i dont like about this image is tha the sun in the camera lense has left a smudge effect across some the river and the guitar in the picture.

We also took these images during filming which we originally used to show the different outfits and locations but as we liked the lighting and colours in these images so much we decided to experiement with shooting for our ancillary tasks which are a poster and CD cover. We used the rule of thirds in these images to draw the viewers attention to the artist by placing her at the right or left hand side of the image as this is the places people first look. We have dressed out model in brightly coloured clothing to give of a positive happy vibe and give the impression her music is lively and upbeat. Along with the scenery, clothing, make up and props we have sucesfully created warm, friendly, happy looking images that represent our artist well.
These are our first attempts at filming, these videos are completely unedited so still have bacnground sounds and we intend to shorten our clips in future to make then shorter and fit with the music more. I think that by shortening our clips we will find we have more little bits rather than dragging out long parts which could be seen as boring by our audience. Also short clips help to create scenes of memories which is what we are trying to create.

I like this video because we have shot our model when she is actually laughing which gives the scene a natural, happy atmosphere which is what we are wanting to show in our video. I think that this clip represents our model well as she looks confident whilst energetic in her movement and facial expressions, she could be seen to our target audience as a role model. I also like the lighting and colours in the clip as it connotes happiness and gives a summery look.

When watching the videos taken from this day we have decided that once they have been cut down and turned into separate short clips they will work really well to create different scenes, moods and work well well our narrative. We have chosen to have the narrative about her getting over her relationship, at the beginning she looks sad and emotional as she reminisces the boyfriend she has lost but then there is a transition to her being shown happy and powerful as she is getting over her ex and moving on to be an independent girl.  These shots will help this as we will include the happier shots at the end of the video and the sadder more serious parts at the beginning.
I especially like the colors and lighting in these as there was bright warm colors that makes the imagery visually pleasing and the brightness makes it clear and easy to see.

This is the model we have chosen to act in our music video, we chose her because of her distinct sense in fashion so we could use her clothing in the video. She wears knitted jumpers, flowy blouses and dresses, floral skirts and overall vintage clothing. This suits our theme of country pop as vintage clothing is assosiated with country pop. We will dress her in this type of clothing with her hair looking quite natural and bouncy with red lipstick.
We chose a brunette actor as we wanted her to look warm and natural, rather than a bright blonde which could look fake, we want to use her natural elegance in this video as we want a calm, warm mood throughout the video.
We chose to use her to play a girl who is heartbroken because she has been dumped by her boyfriend, we will shoot her in difference scenery, for example we will shoot her playing her guitar singing the song sitting on a bridge over a river or in a bedroom and also shoot her later in the video walking through the woods and fields.

When first looking at the lyrics of the song we have come up with a few ideas about how we could portray the lyrics through the video to give it meaning. In our video we want to not so much give it a story line but rather give it a meaning and leave the viewer to guess and use their imagination about what could be the story line, this makes it more interesting and allows the viewer to create a personal attachment to the song.

We asked a 17 year old girl what she thought of these ideas for filming
and she responded with 'I like the idea of fading the scenes together when editing,
to create smooth transitions between the different scenes. I like how your using the
lyrics to define what your scenes will have in them. However, I feel you need to
make it really clear to the audience what has happened in this girls relationship, as
your not having a male character in your video.'

These are our first ideas about what we will need when filming, for example, we have chosen these clothing ideas after looking at our moodboard because we want it to relate to the genre of the music.

We decided to show a group of girls of the ages from 15 to 18 as they are our target audience the song choice and got feedback from them about what they would expect to see in the video. We asked them to close their eyes and write down the first things that came to their mind, including setting, instruments, objects.. these are the results we got:
Calm atmosphere
Pastel of vibrant colours
Close-ups (allows personal aspect of relationships to be highlighted)
Set in summer- field of flowers
Reflection of past relationship in black& white
Natural environment
Pale clothes, pastels and whites
Solo artist in a dress, walking in natural scenery
Reflections of past in sepia
Summer
Bright colours
Performance scenes
Band
Sepia
Live performance scenes
White dress
Instruments like guitar
Narrative- boy and girl
Summer
Field
Boy and Girl relationship
Summer/Spring
Girl with guitar
Past memories as flashback scenes

From this we can use these ideas to help in the planning of our video as we know what our target audience would like to see in the music videos, we have looked at these and decided we would especially like to include:
bright colours in the scenery
reflections of the past
girl with guitar
close up shots
natural setting

This is my moodboard for our music video. This will help me to ensure that my music video suits my target audience as it shows the fashion of the indie/pop culture. I have included images that i think suit the genre of the music i have chosen and will use this when making decisions such as:
  • Outfits
  • Make up
  • Scenery
  • Background
  • Props
  • Lighting

Researching the music industry

The music industry is basically made up of companies and people who make money from recording and selling music around the world. A record label is described as  "a brand or trademark associated with the marketing of music recordings and music video". Most artists are now reliant on their recording label to broaden their consumer base and marketing and promoting their product on portable devices, radio and television. By doing this they are making it aviaible on other media platforms. Record labels create revenue as they enter contracts with the recording artist, they fund, market, produce and distrube the music and in return receieves royalties when the music is sold. 'Major Labels' are recording labels that are well known and have contracts with some of the most famous artists, these are some examples:
